RIG RIOT / FIELD NOTE

Difficulty Scaling Explained

Why enemies get harder and how objectives, upgrades and builds keep pace.

RIG Riot runs are built around pressure. Enemies get harder as the raid continues, while objectives and upgrades ask you to keep moving instead of farming forever.

The practical rule

If a run starts easy and then suddenly feels unwinnable, diagnose time, objective progress and damage output together. A strong early weapon can still fail when the build does not scale into later fights.

  1. Check how long the run has been going.
  2. Check whether the active objective is complete or still blocking progression.
  3. Check whether upgrades are keeping pace with enemy health and damage.
  4. Check whether the build is spending too much time fighting enemies that do not advance the objective.

Fight, skip or rush

Use fights to clear the objective path, earn necessary upgrades and protect the route forward. Avoid turning every enemy group into a full clear unless the objective requires it or the reward is worth the time. When enemies begin outscaling your damage, the problem may be route discipline rather than only weapon strength.

Why objectives matter

Objectives are the run's clock management system. Completing them opens the next step; delaying them gives scaling more time to punish low damage, weak sustain or unclear movement. If you repeatedly lose after a similar time window, record the objective state at that moment. The missing piece may be route priority, not raw aim.

Build checks for scaling

  • Damage plan: Can your weapon and Volatile Mods kill priority targets quickly enough?
  • Mobility plan: Can Dash, Turbo Boost or Wall Kick shorten routes instead of adding risk?
  • Sustain plan: Do you have a way to recover from chip damage before later stages?
  • Targeting plan: Are lock-on or manual aim settings helping the weapon actually connect?

Frequently asked questions

Should I clear every enemy?

Not by default. Clear what blocks the objective, threatens the route or grants a meaningful upgrade. A full clear can become a trap if it costs too much time.

Why do enemies feel stronger later?

The game is designed around increasingly difficult enemies. Treat later pressure as a signal to inspect objective speed, upgrade timing and build damage together.

Which guide should I read with this?

Use Objectives for route priorities, How to Heal for sustain, and Builds for damage roles.
